RANT - Something is bothering me and I’m going to share it with you.
Starting this Saturday March 1st my state
of NJ is implementing a law that says if you are caught using your cell phone
and you are not using a hands free device you will get pulled over and receive a
minimal $100.00 fine. That to me is so wrong. If I’m on my phone ( and not using a hands
free device) and I’m driving ok, not speeding, swerving, forgetting to use
signals, holding the lane in a proper fashion etc. then why should I get fined?
This law is purely based on assumption. Now if I’m being a jerk on the road and
I’m not holding a lane or something and clearly I’m distracted by my phone usage
then I should get pulled over and ticketed. The second example(that being the
example of distraction via phone) I gave is an example of a fine based on fact
rather than assumption. That’s not a “phone offence”; erratic driving is or
should be tagged and ticketed under the category of careless driving. You get
ticketed for careless driving based on fact. You were driving in a poor manner
so you get ticketed for reckless or careless driving. In that case there is no
penalty based on assumption. The way the law is designed now has nothing to do
with justice or safety. It’s simply a way for the state to make money at the
expense of their over taxed residents. It’s not right, it’s not ethical nor is
it just. So now the question is this, what’s next? No soda in the car? No
stereo? So much the for the entire drive time radio money making machine. No
children in the car? Tell me a crying baby in the back seat or two bickering
kids isn’t a distraction. I certainly know that driving with my two dogs in the
car is a far greater distraction than my cell phone can ever be. My phone
doesn’t try to overtake the car and attempt to put its paws in the steering
wheel. So, is it safe to say that by 2012 we will not be aloud to talk in our
vehicles. Mind you, we can still have the kids and animals in the car but we
will not be able to correct their behavior via verbal communication. I guess we
won’t be able to sing or pray either. There goes music and religious programming
as we know it. Last but not least no more sports in the car either. Now here’s the bright side. Lexus and
Infinity now have cars that can park themselves. Maybe this technology can be
advanced (auto pilot for cars) and then we will be able to have our vehicles
drive us about and we can go back to all the normal activities that we enjoy in
our cars. In closing I would like to say that big brother and his big fat uncle
are flexing their muscle. Where’s Mr.. Orwell when you need him.

I have to agree... talking about distractions... how about setting a rolled up tube of cancer causing agents on fire then driving with that in your had? Hmmm... burning ashes in my lap? That's ok... just don't call me!!! Thanks for the Rant!
