Today is a big day. We were up bright and early to start the judging process. The vibe amongst the judges was excellent. We really came across to one another as a dedicated team up for the challenge and what a challenge it was. We knew that this was going to be a close race but I would have never dreamed it to be this close. Both the interview and the ten minute speeches were so different, the pairs were different, each pair made mistakes and each pair shined in areas too. This was no easy contest to judge. After a morning of judging I think all us judges had no idea how this would play out. After the morning judging me and barb presented on flexibility in M/s relationships. The room was packed and once again people seemed to enjoy us and the presentation went well. We were both pleased. Soon it was the big night. This is the night that we do the final judging and we also do our step down speeches. The contest was tough and the Saturday night dinner and event was amazing. I think I was smiling for about 80% of the weekend. As time rolled on we were having a great time and then we were up. It was time to do our speeches, you know the ones we were working on for the last two months. I was really pleased with how mine went. I really wanted to do well. I didn’t shine the way I wanted to last year when we ran for title. I did shine at SPLF but not at the Northeast regional contest. I wanted to show that I wasn’t a fluke. I believed in the content of my speech, the trick was the delivery. I wanted the speech to come across in the style of ½ southern Baptist minister and ½ Kiss concert. Everything worked perfect. People enjoyed my message, I had them on their feet in the middle of the speech, people were yelling and cheering and feeling what I was saying. Then they participated loud and clear in the audience participation part. (this was partly unscripted but when you are on a roll you got to rock). My speech was 100% success. I think I made up for last year and then some. I felt proud of myself. barb’s speech was equally wonderful. She took a different approach but she too rocked the house. I was so proud of her. GOOD GIRL! The contest was amazing, the contestants really gave it their all but sad to say there can only be one winner. This time out the winner only won by 4.7 points. Congratulations to Lady Lynette and slave lamb. Job well done guys but in my view there were no losers, everyone was a winner. I really do mean that and I’m sure all the judges would agree.
